Bolton Neighbourhood Engagement - Bolton Central & Great Lever

This report highlights the feedback gained from attendees to our neighbourhood engagement event. The hope was to find out what local residents believe are their community assets and have a conversation about managing health and well-being.

Summary:

We collected 407 responses from 44 respondents and the key findings are as follows:

  • There was a wide recognition of the existence of a wealth of assets locally (122 comments)
  • In order to access all the assets residents felt transport needed to be improved.
  • Challenges to managing health and well-being included ever increasing waiting times, inadequate housing and high costs of living.
  • Residents felt that they were told to speak up but then professionals did not listen to what they had to say.
  • Residents welcomed new primary care roles but emphasised that such roles should be community based and community led.
  • De-professionalising services and recognising resident’s expertise and community assets was seen as a vehicle to helping residents manage their health.
  • Technology was seen as an underutilised asset and could create increased channels for communications, forums and support in the community.

Conclusions:

Residents appeared to have much going for them in terms of assets and service managers should tap in to these useful resources and empower community members to manage their health and well-being.

As with other neighbourhoods improvements regarding transports was seen as a key enabler to helping individuals manage their health as was waiting times, communication and digital literacy.
