I grew up in Nottinghamshire and after university in Manchester, decided to settle in the North West. I’ve lived in Bolton now for 24 years and during most of that time I have worked for the local NHS – seeing it through numerous reorganisations! – and I retired as Director of Service Development at the Bolton Foundation Trust at the end of 2013. I’m still “in touch” with what’s happening in the NHS in Manchester through a part-time role that I now have with the Trust in Stockport.
I have a Dutch husband (hence the unusual surname!) and two children, both born in Bolton and brought up in Bolton and, partly, in Holland. (Holland’s healthcare system makes an interesting comparison with our own).
I enjoy walking, reading and exploring hidden corners of the UK.
I think I have some insight into the NHS and how it works, which I hope can be useful to Healthwatch. It really matters to me that we keep trying to improve it – and that is much more likely to happen if it’s done by listening to the people who use the service and need the service.
