Bolton Neighbourhood Engagement - Westhoughton
This report highlights the issues and concerns raised in our Neighbourhood Engagement in Westhoughton. Read what the community thoughts on managing health and well-being and the dicsussions around community assets.
Summary:
We collected 221 responses from 26 respondents and the key findings are as follows:
- There were 116 mentions of existing assets including libraries, health walks and kids workshops.
- There was a desire to have many assets further developed including carer groups for both adults and young people as well as self-help groups.
- There was talk that there is a perception that Westhoughton residents are affluent however residents were keen to highlight that there are pockets of deprivation that miss out on any funding from the authorities.
- There was confidence in the new primary care roles and respondents suggested they could be a catalyst for a change to more community based and person centred care
- Having a feedback process to enable residents to get involved I service development was seen as important as many felt they had no influence or voice.
Conclusions:
Residents felt that Westhoughton was sometime miss-represented as affluent, however there are pockets of deprivation which often go unnoticed.
Although many assets were identified there was a clear desire for under developed or missing services to be focused on.
There was a clear wish from residents to be involved in service development however in order for this to be successful a focused approach on communication and transparency of information was seen as key.
